Sarcoma of the Skull

into the J. J. Hospital on the 4th May 1898 with a swelling of the left temporal region. His father had died of fever seven years back; his mother, six brothers and two sisters were all alive, in good health, and no history of any malignaut disease in any member of the family could be made out. About fifteen years back the patient suffered severely from fever, but had otherwise always enjoyed perfect health. He stated that the swelling of the scalp had been present as long as he could remember, in fact, he believed it to be congenital, and in his childhood was about the size of a walnut, never gave him any pain and was hard in consistence. About three months before admission, while asleep, he was accidentally hit by a log of wood falling on his head and striking the swelling at the same time. After this the swelling began to increase in size and became painful; he applied fomentations to relieve it; the pain became continuous and slightly throbbing in character.
